Ryan Gosling Joins the Star Wars Universe

Lucasfilm has officially announced a new standalone Star Wars film titled Star Wars: Starfighter, with Ryan Gosling set to play the lead role. The film will be directed by Shawn Levy, known for his work on Deadpool & Wolverine, and is scheduled for release on May 28, 2027. The announcement was made at the 2025 Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo, where Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy and Chief Creative Officer Dave Filoni shared details about the upcoming project.

Starfighter is set approximately five years after the events of Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker. The film promises to introduce a completely new adventure with original characters in a previously unexplored period of the Star Wars timeline . Production is scheduled to begin in the fall of 2025.

A New Direction for Star Wars Films

The casting of Ryan Gosling marks a significant moment for the Star Wars franchise. Known for his roles in films like La La Land and Blade Runner 2049, Gosling’s involvement brings a fresh energy to the series.
